Gonstead Technique
Edina Chiropractor Dr. Brenda understands not every person is the same, and because of that, we’re proud to offer several specific adjustments to meet their needs. With the Gonstead Technique, often hailed as the “gold standard” in chiropractic, we can address our patients’ concerns through evidence-based practices.
What Is the Gonstead Technique?
Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, this approach came from his engineering background. His “foundation principle” explains how a subluxation pattern in one area of the spine can produce compensatory changes in another.
Therefore, we look at you as a whole person—not just your spine—to determine where the adjustment would be most beneficial to bring results.
What to Expect
Seeking a different way to adjust the spine than Diversified, Dr. Brenda took additional coursework on the technique to become proficient in delivering Gonstead adjustments.
After studying your health history, we conduct a complete examination, which generally includes full spine X-rays and precise analysis. Using a small heat-sensing instrument, subluxation patterns are revealed by slight differences in temperature. Finally, we use our fingertips to palpate or feel the location of individual bones and how they may differ from their normal position.
We’ll have you lie on your side to adjust your lower spine and pelvis. Subluxations in the middle back are corrected as you assume a comfortable kneeling position. When you are seated, we can restore the integrity of your spine without twisting or rotating your neck.
Sometimes, you’ll hear a slight “popping” sound called cavitation. Sometimes you won’t. Either way, better health is on the way!
