Frequently Asked Questions
Chiropractic
Once I go to a chiropractor, will I always have to go?
Only if you want a healthy spine, optimal nerve/nervous system function, and want to feel, act, and function your best!
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most patients love the sensation. It can be startling if it’s your first adjustment, but Dr. Brenda talks you through it, so there are no surprises.
Can chiropractic cure everything?
Chiropractic doesn’t cure or treat anything. Dr. Brenda moves the bone, taking pressure off your nervous system so your body can heal itself. It’s as simple as that.
Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?
Dr. Brenda chooses not to work with insurance companies because the premise of her practice is wellness/prevention care, and insurance does not pay for this. If a person has pain, some insurance companies pay for chiropractic care but nothing for long-term care, which can take more than the few visits they pay for. It’s common for patients to use their HSA card, a great option we accept.
How much does it cost?
The initial visit is $100, and follow-up visits are $35-$55. Comparing our fees to medical, pursuing a natural approach that saves you time and money makes sense!
Do I need a referral from my physician?
No, you do not.
Do you work with medical doctors?
Dr. Brenda can if a patient requests it.
Will I get adjusted on my first visit?
Yes.
Will you suggest exercises or other things I can do?
Yes, if you are going to do them!
Can someone who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?
Yes.
Scraping/Massage
Dr. Brenda offers scraping, a massage/therapeutic tool designed to break up adhesions and connective tissue that lie over muscles. This therapy may enhance blood flow to speed up healing and decrease pain.
Does Insurance cover this?
No.
Do I have to disrobe?
No.
How much does this cost?
The fee is $35.
Should I do anything in particular after my massage?
No.
How does this help my chiropractic care?
It may.
Pediatric Chiropractic
Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?
Dr. Brenda loves caring for babies and young children because they also have a spine and nervous system. It’s important to have your children checked sooner than later so they do not have spinal or health problems down the road.
Can chiropractic help with colic, and how?
Chiropractic adjustments have helped with a variety of digestive issues. Colic is common among babies but not normal. It’s a symptom that something is not working right on the inside of the body. Dr. Brenda determines if and where pressure affects the nerves that go to the stomach and digestive system. If that’s happening, it could cause symptoms such as colic.
How safe are adjustments for children?
They are very safe and effective for various symptoms and to help a baby sleep. If your child arches and rubs their head while lying on their back, that indicates they need/want an adjustment.
How old were your children when they received their first adjustment?
Dr. Brenda adjusted her son when he was only one day old. Some babies may need to be checked earlier, depending on their birth experience.
How often should my child be adjusted?
It depends on what is going on with the child and their health, but at least once a week. Dr. Brenda adjusts her son a few times a week. He is 12 years old and requests to be checked and adjusted!
Pregnancy Chiropractic
How safe is an adjustment during pregnancy?
Very safe, Dr. Brenda also uses pregnancy pillows to take pressure off of a woman’s stomach/baby while lying on the adjusting table.
How often do I need to come in?
It depends on how the pregnancy develops and your body handles the additional weight. Typically, once a week is good practice to promote a healthy baby and an easier birth process.
Will you work with my OB-GYN?
Yes.
Do I need a referral from my physician?
No.
Sports Chiropractic
How is sports chiropractic different than regular chiropractic?
It’s similar, but a person may also benefit from cupping or RockTape in addition to a chiropractic adjustment.
Can regular care improve my golf game?
Yes, because alignment of the spine, shoulder, wrist, and especially elbow joints helps with proper mechanics.
Does chiropractic help with sprains? How?
Adjustments align the joints, which speeds up healing.
Why are so many professional athletes raving about chiropractors?
It’s all about mechanics and performance. The body functions and performs like a well-maintained machine when aligned correctly!
